    The following historical information is about the service of both the battery, and the men, of the Waccamaw Light Artillery, South Carolina Volunteers, (also known as Ward's Battery) which served in the American Civil War from January 1862 to April 1865. BATTERY TIMELINE

December 1860: Captain Joshua Ward offers the services of the battery to the Governor of South Carolina, and they were assigned to coast duty.
January 20th, 1862: Mustered into service at Waccamaw, South Carolina, for the duration of the war at Waccamaw, South Carolina. At the time the battery is temporarily attached to the 10th South Carolina Volunteer Infantry Regiment.
August 13th, 1862: One section of the battery is engaged at the Black River, South Carolina.
August 31st, 1862: Attached to the 4th (later 12th) South Carolina Volunteer Cavalry Battalion.
September 1862 to December 1864: The battery is stationed at Battery White near Georgetown, South Carolina.
September 19th, 1864: Moves from Georgetown to Florence, to guard prisoners of war at the Florence Stockade.
September 21st, 1864: Arrives at Florence, South Carolina, a portion of the battery moves to Mars Bluff, half going by steamer and the other via the Pee Dee Bridge and then by railroad.
October 1864: Moved back to Georgetown, South Carolina, arriving 3-days later.
February to April 1865: Served in the Carolina's Campaign.
