The following historical information is about the service of both the regiment, and the men, of the Sixth (6th) South Carolina Volunteer Cavalry Regiment, which served in the American Civil War from January 19th, 1863, to May 1st, 1865.   REGIMENTAL TIMELINE

 
January 19th, 1863: The Sixteenth (16th) South Carolina Volunteer Cavalry Battalion in increased by the organization of three companies, raising it to the strength of a full regiment, and is reorganized as the Sixth (6th) Cavalry Regiment, South Carolina Volunteers. The companies of the battalion retained their original company letters in the new organization.

January 1863 to April 1864: Served in the defense of Coastal South Carolina.

July 10th, 1863: Engaged at the Willistown Bluff along the Pon-Pon River, South Carolina.

April to June 1864: Served in the Overland Campaign (Virginia).

May 5th to 6th, 1864: Engaged at the Wilderness, Virginia.

May 8th to 21st, 1864: Engaged at Spotsylvania Courthouse, Virginia.

May 23rd to 26th, 1864: Engaged along the North Anna River, Virginia.

May 28th, 1864: Engaged at Hawes Shop, Virginia.

June 1st to 3rd, 1864: Engaged at Cold Harbor, Virginia.

June 11th to 12th, 1864: Engaged at Trevilian Station, Virginia.

June 1864 to January 1865: Served in the Siege of Richmond & Petersburg, Virginia.

October 1st, 1864: Engaged at Vaughan Road, Virginia.

January to April 1865: Served in the Carolina's Campaign.

February 27th, 1865: Engaged at Mount Elon near Darlington, South Carolina.

March 9th, 1865: Engaged at Solomons' Grove, North Carolina.

March 10th, 1865: Engaged at Monroe's Crossroads, North Carolina.

April 26th, 1865: The regiment is surrendered as part of the Army of Tennessee at Durham Station, North Carolina.
