May 1863 to March 1864: Department of South Carolina, Georgia & Florida
May 28th, 1863: The Rutledge Mounted Riflemen is reorganized into a squadron of two companies at McPhersonville, South Carolina, per Special Order No. 109, Department of South Carolina, Georgia, & Florida, being designated as Companies 'A' and 'B' of the Rutledge Mounted Riflemen - Trenholm's Squadron, under Captain William L. Trenholm.
May 1863 to March 1864: Served on duty along the coast of South Carolina.
March 11th, 1864: The squadron is consolidated with the Cavalry Battalion of Holcombe's Legion, Tuckers Squadron (Marion's Men of Winyah) and Company A of Boykins Squadron of Mounted Rifles and organized as the Seventh (7th) South Carolina Volunteer Cavalry Regiment.
Company A is designated as Company B of the 7th Cavalry Regiment.
Company B is designated as Company G of the 7th Cavalry Regiment.
