August 1862 to September 1862 - Jenkins' Brigade, Kemper's Division, 1st Corps, Army of Northern Virginia
September to November 1862 - Jenkins' Brigade, Jones/Pickett's Division, 1st Corps, Army of Northern Virginia
April 21st, 1862: The battalion is organized as the Thirteenth (13th) South Carolina Volunteer Infantry Battalion, also shown as the Fourth (4) or Mattison's Battalion, at Yorktown, Virginia. The battalion was formed from new recruits and re-enlisting members of the Fourth (4th) South Carolina Volunteer Infantry Regiment, which had failed to successfully reorganize following the expiration of its original term of service, with five (5) companies under the command of Major (previously Lieutenant Colonel) Charles S. Mattison.
May to July 1862: Served in the Peninsula Campaign (Virginia)
May 5th, 1862: Engaged at Williamsburg, Virginia
May 31st & June 1st, 1862: Engaged at Seven Pines, Virginia
June 27th, 1862: Engaged at Gaines Mill, Virginia
June 30th, 1862: Engaged at Frayser's Farm, Virginia.
July to August 1862: Served in the Manassas Campaign (Virginia)
August 29th & 30th, 1862: Engaged at Manassas, Virginia.
September to October 1862: Served in the Maryland Campaign (Virginia)
September 14th, 1862: Engaged at South Mountain, Maryland.
September 17th, 1862: Engaged at Sharpsburg, Maryland.
November 11th, 1862: As a result of losses and being understrength, the battalion is disbanded and consolidated into two companies which are assigned as Companies I & K of the Infantry Regiment, Hampton's Legion of South Carolina Volunteers. Companies B, D, & E are consolidated as Company I and Companies A & C are consolidated as Company K.
