June to November 1862 - James Island, 1st Military District of South Carolina, Department of South Carolina, Georgia & Florida
November 1862 to July 1863 - City of Charleston, 1st Military District of South Carolina, Department of South Carolina, Georgia & Florida
July to September 1863 - 5th Sub-Division, 1st Military District of South Carolina, Department of South Carolina, Georgia & Florida
February 17th, 1862: The battalion is organized for State service on the Citadel Green in Charleston, South Carolina, from elements of the Seventeenth (17th) Regiment of South Carolina Militia and was designated as the Charleston Battalion, under the command of Major Peter C. Gaillard.
March to April 1862: The battalion is mustered into Confederate States service by companies as the First (1st) South Carolina Volunteer Infantry Battalion on the Citadel Green in Charleston, South Carolina, for the period of twelve months' service.
March 15th, 1862: Company F is mustered into Confederate service at Charleston, South Carolina, for twelve months' service.
March 17th, 1862: Company A is mustered into Confederate service at Charleston, South Carolina, for twelve months service.
March 24th, 1862: Companies B, D, & E are mustered into Confederate service at Charleston, South Carolina, for twelve months' service.
April 7th, 1862: Company C is mustered into Confederate service at Charleston, South Carolina, for twelve months' service.
May 3rd, 1862: The battalion is reorganized to serve for the duration of the war.
March 1862 to September 1863: Served in the operations in, and around, Charleston, South Carolina.
June 3rd, 1862: Engaged in the skirmish at Legare's Plantation on James Island, South Carolina.
June 16th, 1862: Engaged at Fort Lamar near Secessionville, South Carolina; the battalion lost ten (10) killed, thirty (30) wounded and two (2) missing in action or captured for a total of forty-two (42) casualties.
November 1862 to July 1863: On provost duty in the City of Charleston, South Carolina; with Lieutenant Colonel P.C. Gaillard serving as the provost marshal of the city.
April 7th, 1863: Engaged in the Ironclad attack on Fort Sumter in Charleston Harbor, South Carolina.
July 18th, 1863: Engaged at Fort Wagner on Morris Island, South Carolina; the battalion lost six (6) killed, forty-three (43) wounded and two (2) missing in action or captured for a total of fifty-one (51) casualties.
August 1st to 20th, 1863: Engaged in the defense of Fort Wagner on Morris Island, South Carolina.
September 8th, 1863: Engaged in the Naval & Marine assault on Fort Sumter in Charleston Harbor, South Carolina.
August 14th, 1863: Per Special Order No. 155, Headquarters, Department of South Carolina, Georgia & Florida, dated August 10th, 1863, the surplus members of Company B are organized into a new organization and designated as Company G of the battalion.
September 30th, 1863: The battalion is ordered to be consolidated, per Special Order No. 198, Department of South Carolina, Georgia & Florida, with the First (1st) South Carolina Volunteer Sharpshooter Battalion at Legare's Point, James Island, South Carolina, and designated as the Twenty-Seventh (27th) South Carolina Volunteer Infantry Regiment.
