With the fame of the Zouaves, Tirailleurs and Chasseurs spreading throughout the World following the Crimean War (1853-1856), other countries military and civil leaders looked towards the examples set by the soldiers of France. The result was the formation of units throughout the World with numerous variations of uniforms, drill and deportment, some were short lived units while others left a more lasting impact on the fame of the units that they were modeled after.
