June 1863 to January 1864 - District of Hilton Head, 10th Army Corps, Department of the South

January to February 1864 - Barton's Brigade, District of Hilton Head, South Carolina

February to March 1864 - 3rd Brigade, Vodge's Division, District of Florida, Department of the Carolina's


REGIMENTAL TIMELINE

April 1863: The regiment is authorized by Major General David Hunter and begins organization under Lieutenant Colonel William T. Bennett at Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.

June to August 1863: The regiment is mustered into United States service as the Third (3rd) South Carolina Volunteer Infantry Regiment.

  • June 19th, 1863: Company A is mustered into service at Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.

April 1863 to February 1864: On duty at Camp Hunter on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.

September 1863: Companies B, C & D are detailed to duty working on a coal yard at Seabrook Island, South Carolina.

February 12th to 13th, 1864: Enroute from Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, to Jacksonville, Florida.

February 13th to March 14th, 1864: On duty at Jacksonville, Florida.

March 14th, 1864: The regiment is consolidated with the Fourth (4th) South Carolina Volunteer Infantry Regiment at Jacksonville, Florida, and reorganized as the Twenty-First (21st) Infantry Regiment, United States Colored Troops.
